General Statement of Duties and Responsibilities:

DCAMM is seeking an Electrician II who plans layouts, prepares diagrammatic sketches, and installs, repairs, and maintains electrical systems and equipment.

The incumbent troubleshoots electrical problems, maintains inventory of equipment and electrical supplies, and determines materials and/or equipment for assigned projects.

The Electrician II maintains reports regarding time and production, repairs, and cost analysis.

This is an Emergency Personnel position; the incumbent is expected to report to duty when the Governor states that only Emergency Personnel are to report to their jobs during certain Governor-declared emergencies.

Duties for the Electrician II include:

  • Plans layout and installs wiring, electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment, with the exception of elevator control equipment; plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, to provide access for future maintenance, to avoid unsightly, hazardous and unreliable wiring and to conform with specifications and electrical codes.
  • Repairs and maintains electrical equipment, such as motors, generators, transformers, regulators, wiring, switches, alarm systems and control equipment, by locating and determining the reason for malfunction, through the use of testing instruments, such as generators and heaters for the purpose of determining safety and efficiency.
  • Prepares sketches to identify the location for all wiring and equipment, or follows previously prepared diagrams and blueprints, to ensure that concealed wiring is installed prior to the completion of future walls, ceilings and floorings.
  • Observes and/or inspects the functioning of installed equipment or systems to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation or replacement and repairs faulty equipment or systems, as required.
  • Inspects circuits and wiring for specified shielding and groundings, and repairs or rewires systems in accordance with building codes and safety regulations.
  • Operates and maintains motors, generators, testing, switchboards, and power panels in good order, to avoid malfunctioning.
  • Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties, such as tests and charges storage batteries; reads electric meters and records meter readings; cleans and lubricates electrical machinery and equipment; maintains an inventory of parts and equipment, etc.
  • May supervise Laborers assisting in performing electrical installation, maintenance, and repair duties.
  • Assists in maintenance and security of grounds and buildings as needed.
  • Assist in snow removal operations as required.
  • May attend meetings, seminars, and workshops.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Facility Manager or Facility Manager Designee.

Minimum Entrance Requirements

One year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a licensed journeyman or master electrician.

Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Commonwealth of Massachusetts license as a journeyman or master electrician.

License and or Certification Requirements

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator's License.

Emergency Designation

This position has been deemed as an emergency personnel position. During a declared State of emergency and in non-Emergency situations/adverse weather, it will be necessary to report to work.

Please Note: This is a full-time (40hrs/week) evening shift. Shift hours are from 2:30 PM - 11:00 PM, Sunday - Thursday

Qualifications

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a licensed journeyman or master electrician.

Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician's License issued by the State Examiners of Electricians.


*NOTE: License requirement regarding the Department of Public Works: Neither general street lighting nor traffic work performed by the Department of Public Works or its agents or employees on public ways is subject to licensing requirements of M.G.L. Chap. 141. 1976 - 1977 Op AG, No. 26.

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
